FAQ (R2)
Hang on, what is this, again?
This is Unknown Seas! Round Two, to be more precise - the first round was such a success that we decided to take what we learned from it and extend to two more rounds - though do please note it is still closed to the two main mods' plurk timelines.
Okay, but like... what's the premise? And who's in charge of this whole operation this time?
Glad you asked! While Round One took place place in a mysterious closed facility under the ocean, this time we're taking things above water! Welcome to a state of the art cruise ship - well, state of the art circa like the 90s - where characters are, as per usual, heavily encouraged to kill each other to earn their freedom! I'll explain more of the setting in the IC section, but if that elevator pitch sounds good to you, you might well be in the right place! No prior knowledge of murdergames or any specific canon is needed to enjoy this game! Nope, not even Bioshock. As for the mastermind, we're not gonna just tell you that! This isn't our first rodeo, you know.
As for who's in charge oocly, that's gonna be Lyndon (
lovebelievesin), Drizz (
lightdrizzel), and to a lesser extent our new helper mod Ashley (
kabunevermind)!
But what about Round One?
Well... ideally, we'd love for you to know what happened in Round One for metaplot purposes, and we have a li'l summary of the metaplot over here, but we're going to do our level best to make sure this round stands as on-its-own as possible! Think... if you've been around the mg circuit for a while, think of the inter-round continuity as being between a Trustfell and an Airlocked. We're aiming for that. That said, characters from the two rounds meeting is not an impossibility but also not mandatory, though it will not be within the timespan of the main round itself.
How do murdergames... work?
Great question! So the main comm,
unknownseas, is where pretty much all of the magic is going to happen. Every week there will be a new log with toplevels for each day. Any given day, you can feel free to put up a comment in reply to the day's toplevel with what your character is doing, providing a few prompts for other players to bounce off of, and they can reply to you for that sweet sweet cr! Be sure to tag around to other players' toplevels too, if you get a chance.
So far so normal, right? Well, the other main ingredient in a murdergame besides, well, the game, is the murder! The first week is all sunshine and rainbows and getting to know each other in the face of impending death, but from the second week on, Friday is given to murder! There will be an investigation posted at 12pm EST, where characters get to wander around until they find a body and then look for clues towards who might have done the murder! Then, on Saturday at 12pm EST, the trial will be posted! Everyone gets to go to the trial room and argue it out until they find the murderer! Then the next week they get to do the whole thing all over again! Unless of course you get tapped to be part of a case, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Wait, what happens ICly on Saturdays, then?
:)
Uh... how many characters can I play? Is there a cap?
Characters are limited to one per player, with a cap of two characters from any given canon! The only exception to this is canons with multiple separate continuities (Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, etc), which have an additional franchise character cap of six if that's ever needed. While this is a relaxed game, getting characters out of their usual comfort zones and into all kinds of weird relationships is half the fun of this kind of thing! As for the overall character count, there's a cap of 25 characters.
What characters can I app?
Any applicable character 18 or over is appable with no strings attached, but characters ages 16 and 17 are subject to scrutiny and require justification of maturity - basically, have they been through enough that they qualify for the exciting world of murder? We're not going to be hugely picky about this, but you're probably not going to get your slice of life anime characters or DCOM kids in. Probably. There are some wild SOL anime and DCOMs out there.
Characters can be apped from any canon in any medium, with some exceptions (though I reserve the right to veto) and conditions:
Original characters are allowed, but the app will be slightly longer given the need to explain their canon to me! Fan OCs are acceptable provided they are relatively unconnected from the canon narrative at large, and will still require an extended writeup and will receive additional scrutiny app-wise.
Playable characters from video games where the player shapes their personality will be allowed provided you can provide a definitive worldstate in your app! Please be respectful to any fellow players from your canon, though, and tell them your worldstate if they ask.
Characters based on extant real people such as internet celebrities or actors are not allowed - we're fine with you bringing in Fate/ John Wilkes Booth or whoever, but you can't show up playing Jim Sterling.
Characters who are dead at their canonpoint are not appable! "Moments before death with healed wounds upon arrival" is fine, but full-on dead people not so much. Corporeal undead are fine, ghosts... we can talk about options.
Characters already present in this round are not appable! No doubles, basically. If you want to app a character who was in Round One, we'll allow it on account of Multiverse Nonsense, and if you want to app a character from the R1 backstory round or one of the canons we've pulled from in the metaplot (Carmen Sandiego, Borderlands, or Bioshock), give your mods a quick ring! We might be able to give you an extra little hook or two (nothing major, we'll tell you that up-front), or at least let you know what you can and can't do.
CRAUs are not allowed! Nothing against them, but for this game they're just not gonna gel.
What if my character isn't human? Like a vampire or a big bug or something?
Well, that's a layered issue! We do require that characters be of at least human sentience (please no pets), that they leave something that can be called a body behind when they die (a gem or pile of coins or whatever is fine), and that while here they be killable with a difficulty on level with a normal human. No weird vampire conditions! But if a character has a special diet (blood, bugs, etc) or any other kind of non-standard physiology you want to play with, you're more than welcome to! The crew is very accommodating. But you're also free to call their physiology a power and make them a normal human as part of the power nerfing! Basically, bottom line: we can talk, just make sure to pitch what you're doing in your app if your character falls into this category.
Okay buddy, when are reserves? Apps?
Well, we're sure glad you mentioned both, because you need a reserve to app to Unknown Seas! Reserves are going to open Friday, January 15th at 12:00PM EST, and apps will open immediately after and close Saturday, January 23rd at 11:59PM EST! Then the game will start on January 24th, unless all apps are in and there is unanimous support for starting early!
As far as reserves go, if you feel like changing feel free to comment in reply to your original reserve, and if you want to withdraw your reserve please let the mod know ASAP!
How active do I have to be? And why SHOULD I be active?
Well, each week at AC time, you'll be expected to turn in ten comments from your character, from a maximum of two threads! If you let me know you're not making AC it won't be a big deal, but if you don't let me know beforehand or you miss two weeks, your character is getting slated for death either in a case or an execution, depending.
As for why you SHOULD be active, that's where regains come in! For every thread of five comments from your character or more (multiples of five comments in a thread DO mean more regains!), your character will receive a token for a small, randomly chosen item! This could be anything from trash to a beloved keepsake from home (or someone else's beloved keepsake from home!), so going out and getting that cr gets your character stuff to play around with! Pretty neat, huh?
Hang on, walk me through the behind the scenes of the murder thing?
Well, every Sunday or so, one or more culprits and victims will be rolled (or chosen, in the case of volunteers) by your mod and tapped to start putting a case together (earlier than Sunday if more than one body is expected to hit the floor). That process is pretty simple, and we can go through it when we get there together! If you are picked as culprit and cannot be present on Saturday, please let the mods know as soon as you are tapped and he will reroll, with your character slated for death the next week. There are no full opt-outs.
IC FAQ.
Hang on, where am I?
Hey there, passenger! Welcome aboard the newest ship from Atlantic Liners, on a beautiful New Years cruise in the Bahamas!
Is this the part where you say "enjoy your stay" in a weird creepy way?
It's not a cruise if you're not having fun! But... even if you are having a bad time, we're out in the middle of the ocean right now. Not a whole lot we can do other than offer our world-class accommodations including free buffet dining and all-star entertainment! We even have a movie theater, how can you be upset about a movie theater?
Don't you usually have to buy a ticket for things like this?
Of course you do, and you already have! Your ticket stub should be in your cabin, the Captain took your ticket himself when you arrived!
So is there like... internet? Social media? A network?
Internet? It's 1994, what kind of service are you expecting out here on the ocean? We're good but we're not that good, buddy! The only one with a direct line out of here is The Captain, but he has provided everyone on-board with these handy little things he calls "tablets" that at least play music! They also have a list of all you VIP passengers, in case you need to find each other.
Hang on, what happened to my powers?
Powers? What are you talking about? Look, all I know is The Captain wants an even playing field, so no powers while you're here!
So what, we just... live here for a while?
Well, we are going to make shore eventually. You can hop out there and head home with everyone else. What kind of cruise lasts forever?
What's the catch?
No catch! [Not yet, anyway. ;) - The Captain]
Okay, but... what about this Captain and the crew? Where do I take my complaints?
The Captain is a busy man, and will only contact you when absolutely necessary. Or to make announcements when it's, y'know, happy hour or the fireworks are going off or whatever. You know how it goes. If you're really that upset, though, his First Mate will be around at all hours to act as a kinda public face. And trust me, you can't miss the guy, OR his face.
So what's... actually on the ship?
The ship is built with all the amenities you can expect from Atlantic Liners' quality of service guarantee! Buffet eating is available 24 hours a day, there are a few restaurants around, and of course we have all kinds of entertainment facilities never before seen on a fully ocean-bound vessel!
Okay, and finally... what happens on Saturdays, if you guys are having the Friday trials during that time?
Don't worry about it!

I'm so sorry
Is viscera acceptable if you could justify that the person could have owned multiple organs of different people? Would plastic toy hearts be more appropiate or just 'gross meat of some unknown source' would be alright?
...That is, Reika canonically makes meals of the hearts of her victims. I just want to know if it'd be acceptable if those hearts could be her renewable regain. If not, would it be alright to have a singular human heart?
