LOCATIONS (R3)

Welcome to New Rapture. There's a lot of city out there - but you aren't going to be seeing all of it, not yet. The rest of the neon-soaked art deco city is visible through any window, but... it's not quite neon-soaked right now. The rest of New Rapture is dark, it seems, apart from where you all are. There's enough light to tell there's more city out there, but as for the buildings themselves? Just silhouettes - though as the weeks go on, maybe that will change.

In general, the city looks like the first Rapture, just less ruined - there's a lot of images out there, but here's a couple examples!

The Hall of the Founders

The Hall of the Founders is where all new arrivals to New Rapture begin. A massive atrium with exits out to multiple parts of the city. The whole place has been completely ransacked before your arrival and, despite the best efforts of whoever cleaned up, there's not a lot left here. Notably gone are a number of massive statues on pedestals, as well as any identifiable signage. But if you want a space to have an event, you may not find much better.

Travel to: Helios Suites, Upper Passage
Mercury Mile, Upper Left Passage
Goddess Row, Upper Right Passage
Miracle Mile 2, Middle Left Passage
City Hall, Middle Right Passage
Apollo Alley, Lower Left Passage
Demeter's Slice, Lower Right Passage

Helios Suites

EXTERIOR

Garden

A pretty little garden outside of the hotel building itself. Relax among some nature that... feels more than a little out of place down here, maybe! Lots of lovely plants, as well as a pond with some bridges!

Pool

A Very nice pool attached to the back of the main hotel building! However, it can only be accessed from either outside or the back of the gym inside. There is a puzzle in this area.

INTERIOR

Lobby

A big open area with a lot of couches, with a general aesthetic that's... a little tacky, actually? But one can relax in style here. Posted on one wall are a number of profiles.

Vending Machine

In one corner of the lobby stands an unmarked, modern-style vending machine! It's definitely out of place given the rest of the décor, and seems to only take some kind of special coin that can't be found anywhere else here...

Restaurant

A very fancy gourmet restaurant with a menu almost entirely dedicated to rich and expensive foods, available to order! Try the Chilean Sea Bass - truly, Mayor Fontaine has spared no expense. Orders are filled out on cards, punched into a device in the wall, and sent from elsewhere via pneumatic tube! ... This was more convenient when there was a wait staff here, perhaps.

Gym

A modern and well-equipped gym, full of all the devices one needs to keep in shape! Plenty of machines in here for everyone.

Elevator

At the back of the lobby, beyond everything else, is a pair of standard elevators! Currently they go to The Lobby and Floor 5, where the suites are located! There is currently no way to reach Floors 2-4.

Suites

Where you all live! More information can be found here!

FLOOR 2

Library

A decent, if slightly complicated in layout, library! In case you forgot your book at home before heading out on vacation. Contains a solid variety of books from a number of worlds, including yours! Curiously, none of them mention either Rapture or New Rapture...

Meeting Room

An ominous sort of space, with screens lining two of the walls, and a massive mirror on the remaining main wall. The screens are off most of the time, except for, well... you'll see. (There is no evidence to investigate in this location)

Motive Room

Beyond a wall of bulletproof glass that usually is set to look like a mirror is a large, empty space, like some kind of isolation chamber.

Mercury Mile

Mercury Mile is certainly not a full mile long, but it does have some lovely little shops, with tasteful bushes and clean sidewalks. It does, however, cut off very suddenly at the west end? Which is odd. It's very brightly lit, which in combination with the glass ceiling and walls, could almost fool you into thinking you're not underwater. Almost.

Ice Cream Parlor

A traditional soda jerk ice cream parlor, with plenty of flavors and varieties! No one is manning it, obviously, but all the supplies are still there! It's bright and spacious, with plucky feel-good music playing at all hours. It even has a jukebox in the corner, loaded up with basically any song you could think of (as long as it's been published). There is a puzzle in this location.

Art Supply Store

A quaint little establishment that sells anything you need to express yourself with the arts and/or crafts! Or... would sell, if there was any kind of money system involved here. As it is, the whole stock is available for the taking! Paint, sculpt, and the like to your heart's content!

Clinic

A small clinic for medical emergencies, complete with basic first aid and lots of medication and some simple equipment! And yes, Nandor, there's a stock of blood bags. Not gourmet, but a juice box is better than nothing!

Department Store

Welcome to the Fontaine Futuristics Little Slice of Rapture department store! There are two floors - the first contains general items - basically things you would find in the average murdergame supply closet (sheets, rope, lighters, etc), as well as some small furniture and kitchen appliances if you want to spice up your suites! The second floor contains lots and lots of clothing - mostly mid-century American fare, suits and dresses and the like, but also a surprisingly varied selection of other styles. And if anything needs alteration, or if it doesn't strike your fancy, there's raw cloth and sewing supplies in the back!

Patio

A nice outdoor space to eat and look up at the... well, it's not a sky, but it's lit up enough in here that you could maybe fool yourself into thinking it is?

GODDESS ROW

About the same length as Miracle Mile, Goddess Row features a few extra non-store amenities. Notably, some entertainment - bowling and video games - as well as a spa and, finally, a proper place of worship for all that praying you guys keep doing! The street is less Official Asphalt than Miracle Mile, the whole area looking much more like a casual country road. There's much less effort to disguise the water around you, though... that does mean it's dark, sort of a perpetual night lit by the streetlights in here.

Bowling Alley

A full bowling alley with plenty of lanes! Maybe not one for everyone, just yet, but definitely enough to pair off. The whole place has the same Art Deco feel as the rest of New Rapture, but maybe the proximity to bowling is what makes it feel... fake, somehow? Comes with weirdly decent nachos and small snacks to order, for those who want a step down from the food in the hotel restaurant. The lanes are fully automatic, with surprisingly modern technology under the hood.

There are also bathrooms big enough to hold meetings in here, if you can stand the indignity of discussing important matters in a bowling alley restroom!

Arcade

Video games! A wide selection of arcade classics from several worlds are available - well, rebranded knock-offs of them, anyway. Same quality, though - they honestly seem like reskins with a few changes to the models. That said, the cases are all themed to New Rapture, art deco and all, but the quality is a little... lacking? Cheap plastic... In the back is some kind of bb gun target practice range, but no guns? Rude.

Spa

A fully equipped health spa! You're going to have to take self-care to another level in here - the literal, since there's no staff to speak of. There's heated and cooled pools in the back, massage beds, lots of scented candles and oils... it's really top-notch!

Church

In the corner of Goddess Row sits a small church, boarded up but not locked. Inside is dusty, but there's a back wall covered in holy symbols both familiar and entirely strange. Real and fictional, even, potentially, to some of you. There is a puzzle in this location.

APOLLO ALLEY

Apollo Alley, much like Mercury Mile, is made like a traditional mid-century American town street! However, at one end, unlike Mercury Mile, is a massive gate welcoming you to Fontaineland. Before you get there, though, there are a couple buildings out here!

The Order Nightclub

A full modern dance club, with a fancy stage, a light-up dance floor, and, more importantly for the adults among you, a fully stocked bar! The same music selection is available as at the jukebox, though this place can get much louder if you so choose. Backstage is a wide assortment of instruments, both acoustic and electric, for anyone looking to get their groove on! You can even get on stage for everyone else if you want!

The Count’s Theater and Very Fine Dining

A dual-purpose stage and movie theater, depending on what you want to use it for. The sign outside is emblazoned with a massive picture of an eye? That’s weird. Comes with reels for an assortment of old black and white movies, and the stage setup to do some kind of… Shakespeare? Maybe it’s Shakespeare? It’s castle-y.

Fontaineland

Welcome to Fontaineland! The streets are paved with gold (paint), the buildings are super ornate, and the rides are great! It’s a little gaudy with the man’s name and face plastered onto so many things, but other than that it’s a lovely little indoor amusement park!

Fontaine Futuristics Presents: The Story of New Rapture

A ten-minute fully functioning dark ride featuring boats that’s half educational, half deeply infectious earworm of a song, telling the story of how Frank Fontaine discovered interdimensional travel and used it to build a better utopia than that loser Andrew Ryan! There’s even a scene that’s supposed to feature all of the founders, but… the animatronics have all been torn out.

Fontaine's Apartment

The bottom floor of this building is pretty straightforward - a storage area and garage. It contains a spare bumper car, some maintenance supplies, blueprints for the rides… and several crates of fireworks.

The upper floor, however, seems to be… maybe some kind of apartment? All you can really see for sure is the window, in which there’s a light on - an old glass lamp of some kind.

Swimmin’ Through the Atlantic

This… is literally just Soarin’ (Over Caifornia) but in the ocean. It’s really pretty and informative and genuinely fun. No evidence in this location.

Bumper Cars

A fairground classic! These appear all themed after fancy modern supercars, but make no mistake: they have the shitty engines of bumper cars under the hood. Almost like a metaphor or something. There is a puzzle in this location.

New Rapture Adventure Coaster

A big, metal roller coaster! It rises, it dives, there’s even a couple loops! It’s perfectly safe, honest! So long as no one messes under the hood, anyway. No evidence in this location.

DEMETER'S SLICE

A small, almost overgrown track of gorgeous path - the buildings are delicate, elegant, glass and filigree, grown around by vines and near-swallowed in flowers of a dozen colors. Instead of a road there’s a creek down the center, liberally dotted with beautiful, painted stones for walking. From speakers… somewhere, jaunty, pastoral music plays, all strings and tambourines.

Nakiri Family Teahouse

The… who? Anyway, this is a sort of… combination traditional Japanese and European teahouse? Like you could do either, there’s supplies and space, or you could do some kind of combination of the two. There is a puzzle in this location.

New Rapture Aquarium and Herpetology Center

A relatively small building, but packed absolutely full of tanks of various marine life! Lots of tropical fish, a weird number of assorted jellies, and a small shark tank in the corner! Careful with that! It’s the only non-enclosed tank in here! Also in here: salamanders, lizards, frogs… some snakes? And an axolotl named Gary.

Roilin’ Pete’s Pet Boutique

A sad, empty pirate-themed pet store. Nothing in here now but broken glass and dreams. And like… supplies, for all the pets you have.

Yellow Diamond Nature Preserve

An… actually lovely, genuinely outdoors-looking space. Fans generate a light breeze, and the temperature is set to “nice summer day” all the time, except for when it’s set to “warm summer night.” The ceiling, rather than a view of the water, is a full projection of a normal sky, clouds and all. If you listen very closely, you can hear the piped-in sounds of an ocean crashing against some distant shore.

Fields

A number of fields for various crops - corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, and the like. It’s very Harvest Moon in here. If you let yourself get lost in them, it’s almost like you’re somewhere else, isn’t it? … However, if you get too lost in them, you might find uh. One of several cows. So to speak. They’re life-size, but at what cost?

Barn

A fairly large barn, which works as both hay storage and event space! Full of some pieces of large farming equipment, like a wood chipper and a hay baler and all sorts of climax-of-a-slasher-movie fare! There’s some kind of storm cellar in the back, too…

Arboretum

A massive grove of several types of common and rare trees! The projection on the ceiling is broken up in places by pipes where the oxygen from these trees is sent out through New Rapture. Several small paths are available between and amongst the trunks, winding around the area. There is a puzzle in this location.

Von Karma Lake

A beautiful, almost natural-looking lake, deep enough to swim or boat in. And there are, in fact, a few boats along the shore! If you want to be romantic and the dark ride isn’t doing it for you. There’s a shed of some kind on the far side.

MERCURY MILE PT 2

It’s… very second verse, same as the first here! Same paved road, same abrupt end. Sure was weird how short Mercury Mile was, huh, given the name?

”Cast In Stone” Sculpture Studio

An art studio that belonged to one of the founders! Lots of supplies in here - clay, blocks of marble, lots of sharp implements to use on either of those - as well as a small gallery of work in the back. CW gore and upsetting shit for investigation.

Gold Saucer Express

A small sort of… casino? Arcade?? There’s a lot of more competitive games here - ping pong, air hockey, some card games - and a sort of points system you can load onto cards and use! Valid at all Gold Saucer and Gold Saucer Express locations.

Circle K

Straight up just… a full American convenience store. Candy, soda, chips… cheap beer? Cigarettes? Anything you can buy at a gas station in the western world, you can buy here. There is a puzzle in this location.

Flowers Armory

A former flower shop that has instead been filled with a tremendous number of weapons. Swords, axes, lances, and bows are the most common, but with enough digging around? You can find all kinds of things in here.

CITY HALL

Once you ICly activate the colored keys in the bathysphere, this final area unlocks! The building is big and imposing, but… only two stories tall, so. It’s fine. The lawn and plants outside are... overgrown, which gives the building a sort of imposing vibe.

First Floor

Not pictured here, the first floor of the City Hall is a shockingly generic bureaucratic building! It’s almost entirely comprised of waiting area and a few shuttered counters along the walls. There is no evidence in this location.

Second Floor

While the names are gone from the doors, in here you’ll find the former offices of New Rapture’s original Founders. They’re all locked, but a little trial and error with those colored keys you’ve been finding? And you might learn some things.

OOC NOTE: This area is your reward for investigating the New Rapture backstory and solving the puzzles! As stated in the initial investigation notes, just like the puzzles and audio logs, this area is not game-critical! Well, those silver key doors might be, but… that’s for later (read: Endgame). Explore as much or as little as you like over the next couple weeks - there may be some information that’s useful come the final trial, but mostly this is to wrap up the parts of the story that aren’t. Each room will be pretty quick, so please don’t feel as overwhelmed as you might looking at the map! Pick a color and take a whirl!
